TAB Urges U.S. Congress to Prevent Federal Government Shutdown
AUSTIN, TEXAS – Today, Texas Association of Business (TAB) President and CEO Glenn Hamer issued the following statement as the U.S. Congress enters the final hours before a shutdown of the federal government at midnight tonight:
“On the heels of historic legislation to boost business activity and spur job creation across the U.S., a shutdown of the federal government right now would inject unnecessary uncertainty for Texas businesses and communities that rely on certainty and stability to plan and grow their operations.
“Texas’ economic momentum is stronger than ever before, with our GDP growing faster than the U.S. as a whole this year. A shutdown could blunt that momentum and stall federal investments and projects that are key to our state’s current and future economic growth.
“The Texas business community urges Congress to act immediately to prevent a government shutdown. Passage of a continuing resolution to keep the government open is the prudent course while a longer-term deal is negotiated.”
