TAB Opposes Proposed Waiver that Weakens Intellectual Property Rights

Austin — Texas Association of Business (TAB) president and CEO, Glenn Hamer, released the following statement against a proposed Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPS) waiver for COVID-19 vaccines.

“The free market is what creates space for life-saving innovations. Dismantling intellectual property rights turns our back on the people who made these vaccines possible. Right now we need lower barriers for trade, manufacturing, and supply chains – not more government.”

The text of the waiver is not final. If the text is made final, it will need to be agreed upon by the full WTO membership and implemented by each member state.
