AUSTIN, TX – The Texas Association of Business (TAB) today launched a litigation arm, the Texas Freedom Litigation Center. As its first action, and as members of the Alliance for Securing and Strengthening the Economy in Texas (ASSET), TAB filed an amicus brief in the case City of Houston vs. The State of Texas.
“As strong proponents of the Texas Regulatory Consistency Act, HB 2127, the business community stands behind the State of Texas in its motion to dismiss this frivolous lawsuit,” TAB CEO Glenn Hamer said. “The Texas Legislature undoubtedly has the power to preempt local ordinances.”
HB 2127 was a top priority for the business community, which expressed concerns of inconsistent and ever-changing regulations across Texas communities. The bill creates certainty for businesses of every size and industry by prohibiting cities and counties from implementing regulations that conflict with certain state laws, while ensuring cities and counties retain their authority to address local issues.
