Texas Continues Raising the Bar on Regulatory Efficiency
At the Texas Association of Business (TAB), we’ve consistently advocated for pro-business policies that strengthen Texas’ competitive edge. Cutting red tape, improving government efficiency, and streamlining regulations are essential to keeping Texas the nation’s leader in job creation, business expansion, entrepreneurship, and corporate relocations.
Last week, Texas took another meaningful step in advancing our state’s pro-business environment with the launch of the new AI-powered Texas Regulatory Efficiency Office (TREO) website.

The new platform at efficiency.texas.gov harnesses AI to help Texans more easily identify the rules, forms, and requirements relevant to their specific industry, profession, or business activity. Instead of navigating multiple agency websites and confusing guidance documents, business owners can now access clearer, faster answers through a centralized portal.
Through our work on Governor Greg Abbott’s Small Business Freedom Council, we heard repeatedly from entrepreneurs and small business owners that navigating the regulatory process to start a business or obtain a license was one of their biggest frustrations. The new TREO website directly addresses that challenge, and we appreciate Governor Abbott and the TREO team for rapidly delivering on Texas’ commitment to continuously improving our business environment.
TAB strongly supported Senate Bill 14 last session, which created the TREO, and it’s encouraging to see the office already producing measurable results for Texans. To date, TREO has reviewed more than 4,100 administrative rules and identified more than 435 regulations recommended for amendment or repeal across 11 state agencies. These proposed reforms could potentially eliminate 69,000 words from the Texas Administrative Code and save Texas taxpayers an estimated $123 million.
Importantly, TREO’s Evaluation Portal also gives Texans a formal channel to provide direct feedback on burdensome, outdated, or ineffective regulations that deserve closer review. Whether you’re a sole proprietor, a startup founder, or growing Texas employer, your input can help improve the regulatory environment for businesses across the state.
As Texas continues to grow and compete globally, state government must continue moving at the speed of business. TREO’s new website is another step in that direction.
