AUSTIN, TEXAS – The Texas Association of Business (TAB) today released a statement following Speaker Burrows’ announcement that the Texas House of Representatives willstudy the impact of data centers in Texas during the interim. TAB welcomed the news and issued the following statement:

“With Texas poised to become a major hub for new AI data centers, we are encouraged that Speaker Burrows has included two interim charges on data centers to help provide legislators, businesses and the public with more information about the impact on our state,”

“There is a great deal of misinformation circulating about data center water usage, impact on the grid, and effect on utility bills, providing a critical opportunity to get the facts about data centers to better inform lawmakers and the public ahead of the 2027 Texas Legislative Session.

“The bottom line is that data centers are vital to our state and local economies, and the concerns about their broader impact are simply not supported by the facts. Data centers are also central to beating China in the global AI race, and if our nation is to win that battle, the eighth largest economy in the world must play a leading role.”
